About Finance For Youth:
Finance For Youth is over 15 years in the making! What started as one guy giving personal finance advice to one person at a time has become a network where a panel of experts is here to answer any questions young people may have about any aspect of Personal Finance!
This is all stuff you should have learned in school. But today's schools can't even seem to figure out how to teach our young people the basics of reading, writing, and math. The most you will ever get in school is a visit from an employee of your local bank or credit union, and guess what their advice will always be? That's right, buy their products and services, and everything will be alright!
Finance For Youth has one, most important aspect that readers will hear over and over again. It is important to do well, but it is more important to do good. To me, that's the essence of a life worth living. Any moron can stumble into money, but that won't complete them. There are bad people in the world who have a lot of money. This tells me that life isn't about money. I look at all the good things that are being done around the world, and I think that this is what living is about.
At the end of the day, it is important to do well, but it is more important to do good!
About Wil Stanton:
I started out as a teller in a small bank. I learned that the people above me never wanted me to learn how to do things. I thought it was just me, but I found out that they never wanted to teach anybody anything. I remember asking questions about finance, and the answers I got didn't make any sense. So I took on the challenge of learning everything that I could about personal finance.Later in life (many banks and credit unions ago), I would see young people come in with the same problems and questions that I used to have. I saw people laughing and making jokes. In fact, I saw them doing everything except help the young people.
So I did.
I started out giving advice and assistance to young people on a "one-on-one" basis, but that soon became too much. I was in demand, and nothing would lessen that demand. I even left the companies that I was working for, but between teens and young adults who were thirsty to learn how to handle their finances and their parents, I never got away.
Finally, a parent asked me where they could go to learn the things I was teaching. I had no answer. The only thing I could suggest was that he would work for years and years in finance, learning everything they could. They shot back, "Why don't you teach?".
So I do.
Of course, there is more to me than Finance For Youth. My wife and I live and work in southern California, both in the finance industry, and between us we have over a quarter century of experience. In our off time, we enjoy taking care of stray cats in the neighborhood, visiting family, and I go to school full time to finish my teaching credential. Hopefully, I can take what I've been doing for so long and bring it to the classroom. It is a very hectic, but very fulfilling life I have chosen for myself.
